It's quite interesting to see how tech has completely changed the work of the common cop against the common thief/murderer/gang member in the last decade. Especially in developing countries.

Before smartphones, cops had to work disproportionately hard to assemble evidence against "simple" crimes. These days, all they need to do is to get the murderer's phone and the hard evidence they are looking for will reveal itself. Almost all common criminals use their phone to organize and manage their heists.

And, what's even more interesting: this is not a secret. Cops know low-level criminals do not have other means of organizing. So, even if everyone knows cops are looking at phones, criminals can't help themselves but use it.
